The Abu Dhabi Chamber switches off lights supporting world’s “Earth Hour” campaign

The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry took part in the international “Earth Hour” campaign as an international initiative organized by the Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS) and launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The lights of the Chamber were switched off in the main branch and all its branches across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for one hour 8:30pm until 9:30pm

His Excellency Mohammed Helal Al Muheiri, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Chamber, said the participation of the Chamber in this initiative comes from its awareness in sustaining the future as part of the initiatives of the government in preserving the environment.

HE said that all lights, machines and equipment in the Chamber’s Tower in Abu Dhabi and all its branches across the country were switched off on Saturday March 29th, 2014 at 8:30pm for an hour long. He remarked that by taking part in this pivotal event, the Chamber joins a big number of authorities, establishments and companies in the UAE in supporting such an initiative.

The participation of the ADCCI in such a world event comes to support environmental and social activities and the efforts of the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi in encouraging the operating companies in Abu Dhabi to adopt this campaign which was launched by the Global Warmth Foundation through lessening the usage of power in general and not using it at all for an hour long on Saturday. “This is just a figurative expression of the support of the Chamber and other bodies towards this international approach to combat global warming,” HE Al Muheiri said.

The Chamber also held a number of activities on Saturday evening within its efforts to shed the light on the importance of preserving the earth and its natural resources. The program of the activities included a countdown to switching off the lights, shows, candle lights and raffle draws.
